英語を添削してもらった

今、ある方が大学院の博士課程に進学する予定で、その試験対策のために過去問の英作文をチェックしていました。研究内容については、まったくの門外漢なのですが。

で、以下が、僕が「直した」ということで書いた英語の一部です。文中の"Ones"は、modern textiles（近代染織品）を指します。

Ones, especially dyed with early synthetic dyes, the use of which was observed in the latter half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, must be paid special attention to, but...

で、以下が、その分野の第一線で活躍する大学院の先生がそれを直したもの。

Especially, special attention should be paid to the textiles dyed with early synthetic dyes dated to the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. 

圧倒的にいい英語になってます。僕が助動詞mustを使ったのはケアレスミスだけど（三人称が主語のmustは、「話者の強い主張」を表すのであって、明らかに普遍性があるこの記述の場合は不適切）、それはささいなことで、がらっと構文ごと変わっています。構文ごと修正されたのはここだけだけど、「あぁ、そうだぁ…」と思いました。

英語力の未熟さを痛感したけれど、こういう経験は貴重で愉しいものです。
